Loyalty & Faithfulness...

One of the ingredient to be a successful and a good life insurance agent is 'faithfulness & loyalty'. To be successful one needs hard work and commitment. To be good in the trade, the agent has to be knowledgeable and service orientated. However 'faithfulness & loyalty' is an inborn instinct which most do not have.

I have been in the industry long enough to witness not many could stay permanently in this challenging career. One could be very successful in earning from this business, but greed in making more could deviate them to some other ventures which might be even more lucrative. We have some billionaires in town who were once selling life insurance. Yes! They are intelligence and smart but not faithful and loyal.


Good agents are honest and sincere but some time with great tempting offers, good agents could easily leave for another company too. There were thousand of our agents who were paid to join our competitors. Yes! Again they are intelligence and smart, but lack the faithfulness and loyalty in heart and mind.

At my age who has been selling for 30 years, I am indeed proud to be still selling and serving my clients. I represent them and I remain with the same company when I first started. There were many ups and downs in the industry and the company, but it never occurred in my mind that I would quit. There were countless tempting offers and opportunities given along the way, but silently and repeatedly I reminded myself that I still love selling life insurance. Thanks God. He has blessed me with the right attitude of life... To be faithful and loyal. I certainly stand tall among the thousand of my colleagues.

I learned from the Bible during the childhood - "Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart”

Selling tips...

Dr Lee had been paying his Personal Accident Insurance premium for many years, covering his life for One Million. On expiring recently he refused to renew, giving reasons as he seldom travel outside. Being a medical doctor who has his clinical practice, his exposure to accident is nil... That was what he claimed.

Not to argue much with a defensive client I had to agree with him. Anyway I suggested some interesting suggestion to him. I said.. Why not let me pay this premium of one thousand ringgit  for you instead. On renewal every year I will also continue to pay. Dr was amazed! Promptly he wanted to know the reason behind.

My proposal to him... If you agree, then please assign this PA insurance to my name. By assigning to me, I will have the full right over the benefits. In the event if an accidental death happen to you, the one million goes to me. Or if by accident, either one eye goes blind, or either one limb or one arm broke, or for any reason total disability occurred, the same one million will be claimable by my good self. Well! Since you don't need this PA any longer and the premium is considered cheap cause of the promotional sales given, why not let me benefit this cover then. I looked at his eyes without saying further.

Took him awhile to respond to this suggestion. He said "Sorry Robert, I think I want to continue the PA".

Moral of the story: Facing fear he could not take chances. Most people are selfish and are unwilling to let other benefit.

Why are Divorce Rates so high????

Fifty years ago, it was the sons who could go to the school to study. Most of the daughters had to stay home to  help the mothers. Even those girls who could attend classes, seldom could complete the primary education. The old school of thought was, sons had to be more intelligence than the girls because they had to earn later in life to get settle down with their families. Whereas the girls need not be smarter than the boys. You might think not fair. Right? BUT! The beauty was... There was no divorce or separation among couples who finally got marry. Most husbands and wives remain as to be married till death. 

Now! What happened? I have got clients who just married within a year, are asking for divorce. Before they got marry, they were loving and caring. After a year of staying together as man & woman, they fight like cats & dogs. Solution is separation. So! What is the rationing behind? I guess is... Woman is more intelligence than man currently. Today you could see girls are excellent students, while the boys are lazy and playful. With their academic achievements and constant learning, ladies are more knowledgeable than men today. Most husbands cannot survive alone on their income. In order to meet their families' needs, wives have to seek employment as well. So! When man has to depend partially on woman, especially on their financial strength, woman automatically has their voice and status. Before, woman had to listen to her man. Now, man has to listen to his woman. Otherwise the trouble would begin. 

Moral of the story: For a successful and happy family, the man has to work harder and earn more than his woman. Or better still... earn enough when your wife needs not have to work. Husband earns and the wife spends. What say you, ladies and the gentlemen out there?

Success to me is.. "Earns much and let my wife spends as much as she likes and yet I don't feel the pain".

Father spending millions on son's wedding....

This year alone I had attended a few grand wedding dinners, when parents had to spend by the hundreds of dollar on their children marriages. The coming month I will be going for another wedding function which I considered could be the most expensive of all. The father of the groom happened to be my good friend, told me he is spending almost two million dollars for his first son's wedding.

I had known the father since the day I started to sell life insurance. He was then only a car sales man, later he took the risk to venture to England to start his second hand car business. A self made man whom I admire  much, today he is a multi millionaire and was given a datukship by the royal dignity.

Asking my rich friend, when he first got marry 30 years ago, did he pay for his wedding or his dad shouldered all his expenses. He was quick to say that his parents were poor then and he was the one who had to work hard, saved and later got marry all by himself. His dad didn't pay a single dime and yet he could happily manage to get things done. I told him this... I too had to save for my marriage those days because I had no parent with me.

What puzzle me now is! Why do fathers have to pay so much for their children's wedding today? After all, these children  have not even proven themselves yet in the working world. Is it good and benefiting for both the parents and their children. Or is it merely for the pride of the father to show to his friends his glamour and achievement. I really have no answer to my thought. Only time could tell. What say you readers?

When you aged far enough, all ladies are beautiful....

Whenever I take the lift in my office, I'm always surrounded with beautiful ladies. Not twenty or thirty years ago. You know why? Guess if you can! The reason is quite simple. Thirty years ago, the ladies who worked along with us were almost the same age like me. Or could be older! Twenty years ago, they were still old to me. Their age could be around 20 to 50. Might not be too much different than my age then. 

Well! Today at my tender age (for those who do not know my exact age, please read my profile first lah), all the ladies who work in our company now are definitely much much younger than me. They are no longer aunties or elder sisters to me. They are all like darlings or honeys to me instead. In my eyes I see them as so much younger, they look so attractive to me today. 

See! Man should not retire so early. They miss all these fun and admiration which I currently are enjoying and appreciating. Thanks God for giving me the health and energy to stay in my career.

Retired husband.........

Sharing a joke.....

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target.

Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse. 

Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target:

Dear Mrs. Harris , 

Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behaviour and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Harris, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras: 

1. June 15: He took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking. 

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.                     

3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom. 

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money. 

5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on lay-by.                     

6.. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area. 

7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers they could come in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.                     

8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMTs were called.

9. September 4:  Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose. 

10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.. 

11. October 3: Darted around the Store suspiciously while loudly humming the ' Mission Impossible' theme. 

12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look' by using different sizes of funnels. 

13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!' 

14. October 22: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed the fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!' 

15.. Took a box of condoms to the checkout clerk and asked where is the fitting room?

And last, but not least: 

16. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, and then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.' 

One of the clerks passed out.                      

Thanks God Retirement is never in my mind.

Please don't let your family to beg.....

Selling tips....

Attempting to sell to a resistance and defensive prospect who refused to accept my proposal, I packed my bag and was leaving his house, I spoke my last sentence upon reaching the door....

"I was begging for the sale, so that your children and your wife won't have to beg should the master of this home isn't around one day!"

Before I could open the door, the prospect paused for a moment, "Is there something lesser in premium which is easy for me Robert?"

I turned my back towards him and realised my last few words triggered or had disturbed his mind. Yes! The case was sold later.
