Stay calm.......

Sunder Singh is a 68 years old senior veteran, who still sells aggressively life insurance with another company. At this age, the mind could easily be disturbed or irritated by the listening. Once he gets excited, his emotion might lead to further anxiety which in turn could cause anger and temper. Nobody likes a fearful and unfriendly person in front. Right? In order for him to control his emotion, he showed me a piece of paper properly folded which he kept inside a plastic folder. The folder is always kept on his shirt pocket. On the paper he wrote two bold words... STAY CALM. Whenever he is confronted with bad situations, he will never fail to read these two words to remind his thought. It works beautifully for him.

My quote - "Getting excited is natural but to stay calm needs plenty of understanding in life".

Spotting defects is faster....

Detecting weaknesses or spotting defects is easier than seeing strength or goodness!

In order to prove my belief, I purposely worn a shirt with a little hole just below the pocket. It was a good shirt but out of a domestic accident, a tiny hole was pierced while washing. As normal I went out to do my routine calls, went back to the office and  visited many clients that day.

You know what happened? Those I met that day, almost everyone of them could see my shirt with the hole. Right on my face they told me about the hole they saw. These were some of their remarks; "Hey!You have a hole here", "Your shirt has a hole", "Is that a hole?", or "Why a hole on your shirt?"

Perhaps there were some who saw but shy to tell me. Of course non knew I intentionally worn that shirt to see their reaction. At the end of the day, it concluded non of them gave me any compliment and admiration on my dressing. My shirt was colourful, my pant was striking, my shoes were new and shinning, I had two expensive Parker pens on my shirt pocket, my watch was beautiful and I had two attractive gemstone rings on my fingers. All these goodies were not noticeable at all, but rather they could identify the weakest spot on my attire, The Tiny Hole.

Conclusion; Yes! Detecting weakness is faster than seeing the quality of a person.

Speaking & writing need skill.....

Do you know... One could speak well might not write well and the one who could write well might not speak well?

Most salesperson could speak well effectively, in order to sell successfully. BUT! Ask them to write might be difficult. Currently most of my sales colleagues are in a dilemma. In order to communicate with the management office, we have to write through the net. Before, we had only a few hundred agents when we could speak over the telephone to get things done. Today, we have 13,000 agents or more. It is not easy to entertain everyone of us now, and we are instructed to write to the main office instead. To pen a few words could be easy, but to express your thought and to write in details is difficult. Their language, grammar and vocabulary are rather weak. Yes! They speak and talk excellently but writing is shameful and degrading.

However those who work under the management are totally difference. Is a daily routine that they have to write. Their thoughts and planning are all written in words. They write in style with business and formal presentation. BUT! Ask them to speak in a crowd, they panic or ask them to introduce our products to a prospect they quit. Yes! They are excellent writers but lousy speakers.

Well! If you want to be special and unique, ideally is to speak effectively and also capable to write expressively both at the same time. I started as a talker and learned to be a good speaker but today by writing daily on my current post, I believe I could speak and write well too. Otherwise you won't be reading here... Right?

Smile first before anything.....

I had a chance to talk to a senior citizen who always jogs over the hilly tracks. His eyes shine and his face looks cheerful. Offering my compliment to this veteran I said, "The constant running must have helped to maintain your peak form. Being so healthy, your smile is so sweet and nice".

Immediately he replied, "Let me correct you. Not the running that helps me to smile. Is the smiling that helps me to run and stay healthy!"

That instant reply was indeed wise and meaningful. Everyone could be running and exercising everyday but when you could not smile from your heart, the exercise might not be fruitful either. He even told us, he smiles at all time of the day. Be it a good day or not, he keeps smiling. The smiling helps him to achieve whatever he intends to do. Meaning, smile first and do the thing you need to do. The result will be better. I believe him because his face shows.

Food for thought - "Smile, even if it's a sad smile, because sadder than a sad smile is the sadness of not knowing how to smile."

SEEK A SECOND OPINION.... .

The doctor said, 'Joe, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration

You have a very rare condition, which causes your testicles to press on your spine and the pressure creates one hell of a headache. The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles.'

Joe was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for. He had no choice but to go under the knife. When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself. Ashe walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a different person. He could make a new beginning and live a new life.

He saw a men's clothing store and thought, 'That's what I need... A new suit...'

He entered the shop and told the salesman, 'I'd like a new suit..'

The elderly tailor eye d him briefly and said, 'Let's see... Size 44long.'

Joe laughed, 'That's right, how did you know?'

'Been in the business 60 years!' the tailor said.

Joe tried on the suit, it fit perfectly.

As Joe admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, 'How about a new shirt?'

Joe thought for a moment and then said, 'Sure.'

The salesman eyed Jo e and said, 'Let's see, 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck.'

Joe was surprised, 'That's right, how did you know?'

'Been in the business 60 years.'

Joe tried on the shirt and it fit perfectly.

Joe walked comfortably around the shop and the salesman asked, 'How about some new underwear?'

Joe thought for a moment and said,'Sure.'

The salesman said, 'Let's see... Size 36.

Joe laughed, 'Ah ha! I got you! I've worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old.'

The salesman shook his head, 'You can't wear a size 34. A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a headache.'

New suit - $400 New shirt - $36 New underwear - $6 Second Opinion -PRICELESS

Give & take is the best policy.....

Recently four of my fellow colleagues went for a holiday to The States. They were rewarded for an incentive trip given by the company, qualifying as The Stars Producer for last year. When they were there, they extended the holiday for another 10 days, rented a car which took them to many interesting places in the West Coast.

However the 10 days seemed not a good get together for the foursome. On these few days while travelling, they had quarrel, argument and plenty of misunderstanding. Instead of being buddies, they came home with a sad outlook with  a lot of different opinions and views of each other. A holiday is supposed to be a happy event but so sad they came home with much regrets and frustration.

From the feedback, there were much jealousy, sensitive, calculative and uncaring attitude among them, while they were travelling together. The four are champion sales agents who perform extremely well in selling, and have acquired the skill to listen and to understand their customers. But! When they aren't selling, they lost their so called prefect personality to their original self. As successful agents, I guess they are rich as well, which might  have also changed their character. When one has no money, he is normally humble and simple but when that same person is rich, he tends to be arrogance and demanding. Serving a customer one could be entertaining and obliging, but when you are with friends and not with clients, the personality might change again.

One of them asked what had gone wrong! The main reason is, there were four captains in one ship and everyone of them wanted to take charge. They were prideful and had so much of self esteem, which in the end turned negative among themselves.

Moral of the story: Good agents might not be good friends. A prefect agent is one who understands how to give way and be tolerance to everyone he meets.

For my fellow colleagues -"And I hope that five years and 10 years from now, I'll be a better man, a more mature man, a wiser man, a more humble man and a more spirited man to serve the good of my people and the good of humanity" - Louis Farrakhan quotes
