Miscommunication

In our day to day's life, effective communication is vital important. The way we speak and write has to be correct. Otherwise misunderstanding and miscommunication could occur unnecessary.

Today i was supposed to meet up with one intelligent lady. Before i left the office, i received this message from her, "My father brother wife passaway. They are bc today."

I was shocked to read the first sentence. Is she telling me her father, brother and wife all passed away at the same time due to an accident. The next sentence made me guessed and pondered further.

I replied her, "You mean your uncle's wife passed away, and your father and brother are busy today because of her death!!!" She said "Yes!" For a minute i was frightened, but her YES relieved my fear. The typical Chinese refers uncle's wife as "father brother wife." So if she wants to refer her nephew in that sequence, most likely she might write "My Father Brother Wife Son". Thanks God! She wrote to another typical Chinese here who understood her.

Food for thought - "Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment" - Benjamin Franklin.
