I gave my pays to mother.....

Gone were the days! I still remember well in mind when I first started to work at the age of eighteen with the government services. It was my first pay cheque, after minus the EPF contribution, my nett cash in hand was only 130. Small the amount of today but not bad for those days. I was so excited with my salary and immediately when I returned home I gave the entire pay to my mother who was waiting for me. I said mum this is my hard earned income and its for you to keep. Believe me, she was crying and I could see tears were pouring over her wet eyes. Mum! Why are you crying? She was too over joyed to see her baby had grown up and was capable to earn and to be able to take care of her.

Those days it was the obligation and duty of sons to give their entire earnings to their parents. In turn, the parents would give a weekly allowance to the sons to go to work. Yes! I was receiving a weekly pocket money of 10 dollars from my mum, or 40 dollars a month and the rest went to them. Deep down from my heart I said, it was such nice feeling to give to our parents those days. We never complained, we lived within the pocket allowances that mum gave and yet we were so happy.

Today is a different story! Its the obligation and duty that parents have to be responsible to raise our children but its never the duty of our children to give us their earnings. Ever since all my three sons were working many years ago, I had never taken a dime from them and in the first place I won't know how much they earn either. To us as parents we would be happy if they could continue to do well and be good citizens for the country. The obligation of sons giving their earnings to parents is lost totally along the way as we progress in this challenging world. Would you agree my dear readers there?

A reminder -
“If you raise your children to feel that they can accomplish any goal or task they decide upon, you will have succeeded as a parent and you will have given your children the greatest of all blessings” - Brian Tracy quotes

Maybe it's true to someone out there.

But i really hope i can give some of my earnings to my parents... or maybe not on a monthly basis, but once a while some token for them to be able to enjoy trip or shopping.

I can't even live well with my own pay check with everything else is expensive but salary is little.

Hi Anonymous,

Gone were the days when children were responsible to their parents. While today parents have to be responsible to their children.

Thank you for reading my blog.
